Sharon  Powers

August 6, 1942 -   August 23, 1998

Sharon was currently a resident of Sonoma, CA when she died after a nine month battle with leukemia.  She fought to make the most of the last weeks of her life, to the point of trying new experimental drugs to prolong her stay on this earth with her son, Shane and loved ones.  She attended various schools throughout Michigan, graduating from Portage High School.  She received a BA in art from Sonoma State University and was working on her Masters when she was diagnosed with cancer.    A creative artist, Sharon specialized in etchings, working on her own etching press.     She enjoyed gardening and the out of doors, keeping a meticulous bed of roses and vegetables.  Other interests included international travel, jazz music, and reggae concerts.  Sharon will always be remembered by her contagious smile and laughter.  She was wheeled into a One Woman Art Show held in her honor at a studio in Sonoma on August 17, 18, 19, 1998 with proceeds going to a trust fund for her son's college education.  In accordance with her wishes she was cremated and a Celebration of Life took place at Stinson Beach.
