Jack Hunt
November 25, 1941 - December 5, 1984

 

Jack was the son of John and Lyda Hunt.  He was an insurance agent, operating the Hunt-Varker Agency in Vicksburg and the Hunt-Broekema Agency in Delton.  He served in the U.S. Navy for four years.  He was a member of the Westwood United Methodist Church.  He also was a member of the Kalamazoo County Board of Commisioners for three consecutive terms from 1973 to 1978, serving as vice chairman in 1976 and chairman in 1978.  He  also served on a number of standing committees including Human and Finance.  In 1978 he ran for the Michigan House.  He left politics in 1980.    He was a former police officer for the City of Kalamazoo, an active member of the Republican Party, served as treasurer for the Independent Insurance Agents Association, was a member of the Economic Development Board, Treasurer of the Chamber of Commerce Convention and Visitors Bureau, a representative on the County Board of Health , and a member of the Vicksburg Rotary Club.   he graduated from Portage Central High School and Western Michigan University.   Surviving are his wife, Barbara (Somers); a son, Steve and a daughter, Susan, both at home; his mother, Lyda Hunt of Kalamazoo; grandparents; several aunts and uncles, cousins, nieces and nephews. 

Funeral services were held at the Westwood United Methodist Church, Rev. Larry Irvine officiating.  Burial in Grand Prairie Cemetary.   Memorial contributions were made to the Michigan heart Assoc. and the A.M.L.S. (Lou Gehrig's Disease).
